Nerf bar categories ideal for your vehicle and lifestyle
Sunday, March 25th, 2012There are four different categories when choosing nerf bars for your pickup truck. These categories are general groupings of their finish or style. The first category belongs to the stainless steel nerf bars which are considered one of the toughest and longer lasting designs. This is because of the stainless steel tube used as the material which almost lasts as your vehicle’s lifetime.
You also need to consider the places you travel frequently with your truck. If you travel near the ocean almost all the time where salt is present on paths and roads, then you should consider a full stainless steel nerf bars, which means that even the brackets and accessories are also made of stainless steel. For Chevrolet pickup trucks, your Chevy Nerf bars should be custom built and be a hundred percent stainless steel. However, if you will be driving most of the time on city roads, urban areas or in places not near any beach or ocean you can use nerf bars that are not “all stainless steel”.
Another category of nerf bars that are gaining popularity these days are Oval nerf bars. The basic and common design for nerf bars is round metal tubes; this make oval nerf bars a far variation which seemed to be a hit with truck owners. From the standard round tube which is only 3 inches in diameter, the oval nerf bars offer 4 to 6 inches width for the steps. This is what makes it popular with pickup truck owners who have family members who frequently ride in the truck. Since it has a wider step, there is more footing stability when climbing the passenger cab thus lessening slipping accidents.
The third category for nerf bars is the Black nerf bars which are black powder coated metal bars. These are considered to be less expensive compared to its other counterparts such as the stainless steel nerf bars. Black nerf are usually installed not mainly for function but more for aesthetic purpose, like it matches a detail on the vehicle that will make it look more stylish.
Last design that we will be discussing is the wheel-to-wheel nerf bars which is known as the longest type of nerf bar. From its name “wheel-to-wheel”, it spans the length from the back of the front wheel to right before the rear wheel. This style of nerf bar is used mostly by pickup truck owners who need frequent access to the truck bed.
